TCMU offers a variety of volunteer opportunities that work with many schedules whether you are a mom, college student, retiree, etc.

Facilitate our STEAM Lab  

As a STEAM Lab Activity Facilitator, you’ll engage children and families in hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) activities.

Facilitate Open Art 

As an Open Art Facilitator, you’ll help create a welcoming, inspiring space where children and families can freely explore a variety of artistic materials and techniques.

Facilitate TCMU Tots 

As an TCMU Tots Facilitator, you’ll help create a welcoming, inspiring space where TCMU’s smallest visitors can  explore imagination based play.

Docent  

As a Docent, you’ll help create meaningful and playful experiences for families throughout our exhibit spaces. This role blends guest interaction with hands-on learning, as you present Pop-Up Play Experiences and help maintain a welcoming, tidy environment. You’ll float throughout the museum, engaging visitors, sparking curiosity, and keeping things running smoothly. 

Tuesday-Sunday

Birthday Party Support 

As a Birthday Party Support volunteer, you’ll assist staff with hosting fun, memorable parties for children and their families. This role involves checking in on scheduled parties, offering help as needed, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. 

Saturdays & Sundays 

Saturdays: 9:00-12:30 or 12:30-4:00 

 

Sundays 11am-4pm  

Q&A Host  

As a Q&A Station Host, you’ll provide friendly, knowledgeable support by answering visitor questions, assisting with directions, and sharing information about current and upcoming museum programs. 

 

Saturdays 

8:45am-1:00pm or 12:30pm-4:30pm 

Field Trip Chaperone – Fill in 

As a Field Trip Chaperone – Fill-In, you’ll be on call to assist when additional adult supervision is needed to maintain the proper student-to-adult ratio during museum field trips. This flexible role is perfect for volunteers who enjoy working with children and are available to step in at short notice to help ensure a safe, positive visit

Exhibits Assistant 

As an Exhibits Assistant, you’ll support the Facilities and Exhibits team with hands-on tasks that keep our exhibits fresh, functional, and fun. From crafting and prop building to organizing behind-the-scenes spaces, this role is perfect for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy working with their hands and contributing to the magic of the museum experience.

Gift Shop Support 
As gift shop support, you’ll work in our storage areas to organize, count, and tag merchandise that will eventually be sold in the museum gift shop. This role is ideal for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy working independently and supporting the museum’s mission through retail logistics. 

Fridays 

2pm-4:30pm 

Birthday Party Prep  

you’ll help set the stage for memorable celebrations by ensuring party rooms are clean, stocked, and ready for guests. This role is perfect for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy creating cheerful, welcoming spaces and supporting joyful experiences for families. 

Thursdays 

2pm-4:30pm
