We’re looking for an experienced, people-centered Human Resources Generalist who is equal parts relationship-builder, problem-solver, culture champion, and compliance guru. If you love helping employees thrive, enjoy wearing multiple hats, and can move seamlessly from onboarding a new team member to analyzing workforce metrics to coaching managers through tough conversations, this may be the perfect role for you.
This position serves as the museum’s primary HR professional, supporting employees and managers across our Greenville and Spartanburg locations and partnering closely with the CEO to strengthen our culture, employee experience, and organizational effectiveness.
What You’ll Do
As our Human Resources Generalist, you’ll help shape every stage of the employee journey by:
Recruiting & Onboarding Great Talent
- Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts, from posting positions and screening candidates to coordinating interviews and extending offers.
- Create welcoming and effective onboarding experiences that set new team members up for success.
- Coordinate offboarding processes that ensure positive and professional transitions.
Supporting Employees & Managers
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and supervisors on workplace concerns, employee relations, performance management, coaching, and conflict resolution.
- Guide managers through performance conversations, corrective action processes, and employee development opportunities.
- Administer and coordinate the museum’s annual performance evaluation process.
Managing Benefits & Compliance
- Partner with benefits vendors to administer employee benefit programs and answer employee questions.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices.
- Keep HR policies, employee handbooks, and employment documentation current and accurate.
Building Culture & Engagement
- Coordinate employee engagement surveys and help translate feedback into meaningful action plans.
- Support employee recognition programs and culture-building initiatives.
- Coordinate professional development opportunities that help our team grow and succeed.
Driving Programs & Strategy
- Oversee the museum’s internship program from recruitment through evaluation.
- Maintain HR dashboards and people metrics, including turnover, retention, engagement, and workforce demographics.
- Support organizational planning, change management efforts, and special projects that strengthen the employee experience.

Part Time
Guest Services Associate
Part-time, Non-Exempt
Greenville Museum location
Up to 30 hrs/week; must have Monday, Friday and Saturday availability
$10-12/hr
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Guest Services Associate to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.
Major Responsibilities
- Handle daily admissions, ticketing and in-house membership purchases
- Provide inviting, upbeat welcome and experience to incoming guests and groups
- Cover retail store register and accurate, well-completed sales
- Support Guest Services team with inventory upkeep and physical organizational layout
Predominant Tasks
- Work daily Admissions operations and retail store using various computer systems, answering phones and inquires while creating a positive, memorable experience for guests
- Act as ambassadors for the museum, providing guests with required assistance and escalating concerns to manage customer expectations
- Assist museum staff with retail store: 1. Sales 2. Inventory put away 3. Accurate inventory counts, upkeep, and placement 4. Sales reporting to provide analytics, increase sales, and support the visitor experience
- Assist the Guest Services and Marketing teams as needed
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of experience in customer services or related field involving such interactions
- Flexible Schedule, including evening, weekday and weekend hours
- Strong technological and organizational skills
Experience
- High school diploma. Additional educational or empirical experiences helpful
- Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children and the general public
Technical Skills
- Project managements, Office 365, Basic math skills
Personal Attributes
- Great interpersonal skills dealing with internal teams, children, families and community members
- Team player, high energy and ethical, able to flourish in a fast paced environment with confidence
- Ability to multi-task, think critically, and drive process and operational improvements
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Strong organization skills and eye for process flow

Internships and Volunteering
The TCMU Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and retain committed interns who bring a variety of knowledge, life experiences, and skills to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in order to better meet the needs of the visitors TCMU serves. Internship opportunities exist throughout the organization, from exhibit maintenance to event planning to host a wide variety of individuals.
