Programs Associate (Greenville)

Programs Associate
Part-time: 20 hours per week, must be available Saturdays
Greenville Museum location
Entry level, 1-3 years’ experience

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is looking for an engaged and creative candidate for the Programs Associate position. The Programs Associate delivers programs to our visitors, ensuring a high quality and engaging experience. TCMU is one of the nation’s largest children’s museums and serves 250,000+ visitors per year through hands-on exhibits and interactive programming.

The Programs Associate should love interacting with people, especially children, but also their caregivers. Some experience in customer service is preferred, and strong communication skills are a must. The ideal candidate will be able to multi-task and have great interpersonal skills, able to represent TCMU and wow our visitors.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Organize, prepare, and facilitate Public Programming while providing a high quality, engaging experience for our visitors.
  • Provide support to the Programs Department by planning, preparing, and facilitating supplemental programs for fundraisers, field trips, camps, and other special events.
  • Maintain museum exhibits, program spaces, and storage areas with a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary customer service and cross-functional team facilitation to meet/exceed expectations of TCMU visitors – at both locations.

Predominant Tasks:

  • Prepare and store necessary materials needed to facilitate public programs offerings.
  • Facilitate public programs during typical business hours in addition to special events.
  • Regularly tidy museum exhibits and programs spaces, as well as support the department with special projects as needed.

Ideal Experience & Skill Set:

  • Minimum of one year experience in customer service or related field involving such interactions
  • Strong organization and technology skills
  • High school diploma preferred but not required, additional educational or empirical experiences helpful
  • Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children and the general public
  • Project Management, Office 365 applications, basic math
  • Ability to multi-task, think critically, and drive process and operational improvements
  • Great interpersonal skills dealing with internal teams, children, families, community members
  •  Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong organization skills and eye for process flow

Camp Counselor (Greenville)

Part-time: 30 hours per week, between the hours of 8:15-5:00, Monday-Friday
Must be available each week during the dates of May 22-July 28. Availability the week of July 31-August 4 a plus

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is looking for a passionate and positive team member to serve in the summer role of Camp Counselor. Camp Counselors create a memorable experience for our campers while leading and instructing a group of 15 students ages 3-12. TCMU is one of the nation’s largest children’s museums and serves 250,000+ visitors per year through hands-on exhibits and interactive programming.

Camp Counselors should have a minimum of one year experience in customer service, childcare, education, children’s programming, or equivalent roles. They should be great problem-solvers, and have a positive attitude, able to adapt quickly in a fast-paced environment.

 

Job Responsibilities: 
Lead and instruct a group of up to 15 students ages 3-12 for a summer-long camp experience.
Maintain responsibility for the safety and health of our campers.
Be a good steward of TCMU through interaction with campers, guests, parents, and use of museum materials and spaces.
Support the Programs department through cleaning exhibits, end of day museum reset, program facilitation, prep, possible Outreach opportunities.
Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary camp experiences.

 

Predominant Tasks: 
Prepare classroom materials, become familiar with lesson plan and activity content prior to class, supervise campers and lead them through various themed activities, maintaining a tight schedule in order to complete all activities, and maintaining a clean and safe environment for our campers.
Implement predetermined safety and behavioral management strategies in the classroom, and document incidents to be handled by camp management, parents, or medical staff accordingly.

Maintain a positive attitude when interacting with campers, parents, and other staff, as well as when completing routine duties such as tidying the museum floor.
Participate in Public Programs or Community Engagement as needed when not needed in a classroom.

 

Ideal Experience & Skill Set:  
Shifts are up to 30 hours per week, between the hours of 8:15-5:00, Monday-Friday.
Must be available each week during the dates of May 22-July 28. Availability the week of July 31-August 4 a plus.
Minimum one year experience in customer service, childcare, education, children’s programming, or equivalent.
Ability to use a laptop computer for file storage and retrieval, email, chat communication, and scheduling.
Adept at problem-solving.
Versed in emotional intelligence when interacting with children, colleagues, and the public.
Positive attitude and adaptability to fast-paced environments.

Guest Services Associate (Greenville)

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is looking for a high energy, customer service professional to
serve as Guest Services Associate. TCMU is one of the nation’s largest children’s museums and serves
over 250,000+ visitors per year through hands-on exhibits and interactive programming. The museum’s
mission is to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive
play.

The Guest Services Associate should have a minimum of one year experience in a customer service or
related field and availability must include Saturday and Sunday, with occasional weekday availability The
ideal candidate will be able to multi-task, think critically, and should have great interpersonal skills
dealing with children and families.

 

Job Responsibilities
• Handle daily admissions, ticketing and in-house membership purchases
• Provide inviting, upbeat welcome and experience to incoming guests and groups
• Cover retail store register and accurate, well-completed sales
• Support Guest Services team with inventory upkeep and physical organizational layout  

 

Predominant Tasks

  • Work daily Admissions operations and retail store using various computer systems, answering phones and inquiries while creating a positive, memorable experience for guests
  • Act as ambassador for the museum, providing guests with required assistance and escalating concerns to manage customer expectations
  • Assist museum staff with retail store:
    • Sales
    • Inventory put away
    • Accurate inventory counts, upkeep, and placement
    • Sales reporting to provide analytics, increase sales, and support the visitor experience

Community Engagement Assistant (Greenville)

Community Engagement Assistant

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is looking for an experienced team player to fill the role of Community Engagement Assistant. The Community Engagement Assistant creates and administers curriculum and lesson plans for outreach and field trips programs. TCMU is one of the nation’s largest children’s museums and serves 250,000+ visitors per year through hands-on exhibits and interactive programming.

 

The Community Engagement Assistant should have experience with lesson planning and teaching, with strong organization and technology skills. The ideal candidate will be able to multi-task and have great interpersonal skills, able to represent TCMU and wow our visitors in multiple settings. Work assignments will be both within the museum and at offsite outreach events, so reliable transportation is required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle community engagement program tasks and serve as support to the Programs team

Outreach Associate (Greenville)

Outreach Associate

Entry level position

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is looking for a team player to fill the role of Outreach Associate. The Outreach Associate represents TCMU at TCMU On the Go and Outreach events throughout the Upstate community. TCMU is one of the nation’s largest children’s museums and serves 250,000+ visitors per year through hands-on exhibits and interactive programming.

The Outreach Associate should have a friendly demeaner, with some customer service experience. They will frequently be dealing with the public and interacting with both children and adults. The ideal candidate will be a team player with high energy. Job assignments will be primarily offsite at outreach events. Reliable transportation to and from events will be necessary.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Handle outreach programs tasks and serve as support to the Programs team
  • Work actively at Outreach events to facilitate curriculum and create an engaging experience

Marketing Intern

TCMU is looking for an creative, enthusiastic and skilled candidate for the Marketing Intern position. This internship position would be part-time and would be primarily responsible for supporting the museum’s Marketing and Communications Department with all marketing initiatives. This is inclusive of social media, e-mail campaigns, research, graphic design and events. Candidates should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, have a keen eye for detail and have skills with social media scheduling, content creation and graphic design.
