Community Engagement Assistant

Community Engagement Assistant  
Parttime, Non-Exempt 
Greenville Museum location 
Flexible Schedule, including evening and weekend hours  
$14-17/hr  

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Community Engagement Assistant to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community. 

 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Support community engagement programs tasks and serve as support to the PCE team 
  • Create and administer plans for curriculum for outreach and field trip lesson 
  • Work actively at Outreach events to facilitate curriculum and create and engaging experience; facilitate enrichment 
  • Assist with other TCMU programming as needed 
  • Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary customer service and cross functional team facilitation to meet/exceed expectations of TCMU visitors at both locations and in the community  

 

Predominant Tasks 

  • Assist with any prep needed to facilitate outreach and field trip offerings.   
  • Act as ambassador for the museum while at programs, providing guests with required assistance and escalating concerns to manage customer expectations    
  • Assist museum staff with all other needs of the programming department such as planning, prep and facilitation as required  
  • Offer educational expertise to support TCMU field trip and outreach offerings.  

 

Qualifications 

  • 1-2 years of experience in a formal educational setting; Teaching certificate preferred 
  • Minimum of three years of experience in customer service or related field involving such actions  
  • Flexible Schedule, including evening and weekend hours  
  • Strong organization and technology skills 

 

Experience 

  • Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children and the general public   

 

Technical Skills 

  • Project Management, Office 365 applications, basic math  

 

Personal Attributes 

  • Ability to multi-task, think critically, and drive process and operational improvements.   
  • Great interpersonal skills dealing with internal teams, children, families, community members.    
  •  Strong communication skills, written and verbal.    
  • Strong organizational skills and eye for process flow.   
  • Team player, high energy and ethics, able to flourish in fast paced environment with confidence.

Intern

The TCMU Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and retain committed interns who bring a variety of knowledge, life experiences, and skills to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in order to better meet the needs of the visitors TCMU serves. Internship opportunities exist throughout the organization, from exhibit maintenance to event planning to host a wide variety of individuals.
