This summer, we’re thrilled to launch K-Ready — a brand-new, hands-on program designed to help rising kindergarteners build the essential skills they need for a confident and successful start to school.
Running June 30 through August 1, K-Ready is held Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM and is included with admission to our Spartanburg Children’s Museum. Through guided play, interactive storytelling, art, movement, and hands-on exploration, children will engage in joyful learning led by caring early childhood educators.
K-Ready aligns with the five core components of the “Ready Kindergartener” as identified by SC First Steps:
-
Approaches to Learning & Inquiry
Children will explore the world with curiosity and confidence, building persistence, creativity, and a love for learning through daily opportunities for play, discovery, and questioning.
-
Emotional & Social Development
Through group activities, routines, and imaginative play, children will practice following directions, sharing and taking turns, regulating emotions, building friendships, and showing empathy for others.
-
Physical Development, Self-Help & Motor Skills
Activities will support gross and fine motor skills, encourage independence with self-help tasks, and promote healthy physical movement in a fun, child-friendly setting.
-
Mathematical Thinking
Children will practice early math skills such as counting, comparing, identifying shapes, sorting, and understanding patterns—all integrated into engaging games and hands-on materials.
-
Language & Literacy Development
Daily read-alouds and disscussions will support children in listening, speaking clearly, asking questions, following multi-step directions, recognizing letters and sounds, and expressing themselves through drawing and early writing.
K-Ready is a free, inclusive program offered as part of your admission to the museum. No registration is required—just come ready to learn and play! This program is especially designed for children entering kindergarten in Fall 2025.
