When Hurricane Helene struck, it left many families in the Southeast in urgent need of support. TCMU, along with many businesses and organizations in the Upstate, had to close for several days due to power outages. This closure marked TCMU’s longest since the pandemic. For two days we reopened with limited hours and set up charging stations at both museum locations. We were thrilled to see our members and guests. We were also ready to lend a hand, working alongside local organizations to deliver essential items to affected areas. Our on-the-go van took on a new mission— delivering supplies to help our neighbors.

Vinny Van Go’s First Trip to North Carolina
Vinny Van-Go, one of our TCMU vans, embarked on a special mission to help our neighbors in North Carolina. With the support of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville and Happy Helicopters, we helped transport vital supplies including food, diapers, formula—that were generously donated by our community.
Lindsey B., one of our dedicated team members, drove Vinny to an official distribution center in Hendersonville, North Carolina, ensuring these much-needed items made their way to families in need. The load may be heavy, but together, we can all make a difference!

Hands On Children’s Museum Transforms into Family Resource Center
Vinny and our team also delivered supplies to the Hands On Children’s Museum-WNC in Hendersonville, NC. In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, this beloved museum located in the community’s downtown, has transformed into a Family Resource Center, providing vital aid to families across Western North Carolina. With CEO Lauren Lunekas behind the wheel, Vinny delivered cleaning supplies, water and more. TCMU is honored to support their efforts.

Here’s a look at how the Hands On Children’s Museum is making an incredible difference:
- Their gift shop has been turned into a FREE grab-and-go zone for infant and toddler supplies.
- They’ve stocked donated frozen breast milk and formula for families in need.
- Local doctors are offering FREE medical care to those affected by the storm.
- They’ve also provided access to counselors, printers, internet, and work spaces, helping families regain some sense of normalcy.
We are so proud of our NC neighbors and honored to play a small part in supporting their inspiring work!

Showing Gratitude with Our Constructing Community Exhibit
While visiting TCMU, guests of all ages can also contribute in a creative and meaningful way. In our Constructing Community exhibit on TCMU-Greenville’s 3rd floor, visitors can color a picture that will be given to linemen who’ve worked tirelessly to restore power to our community. It’s a simple but heartfelt gesture of thanks to the incredible teams who braved difficult conditions to help us all regain normalcy.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we’ve been reminded of the power of community and small acts of kindness. Whether it’s delivering essential supplies or providing kids a chance to express gratitude through art, TCMU is grateful to support recovery efforts alongside our neighbors. Together, we’re helping to rebuild and bring hope to those who need it most.
