Senior Director of Visitor Experience (Sr. Dir. – VE)
Location: Greenville, SC

As a vital community resource, TCMU spans 95,000+ square feet across two locations, offering programs, exhibits, and experiences that delight families and schools. This role oversees Guest Services, Facilities & Exhibits, Retail, and Programs, ensuring every visitor’s experience is safe, seamless, and full of wonder.

Director of Brand and Communications
Location: Greenville, SC
Are you a creative storyteller with a passion for connecting communities? The Children’s Museum of the Upstate (TCMU) is looking for a Director of Brand and Communications to lead our marketing, communications, and community engagement strategies. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is perfect for a visionary leader ready to amplify TCMU’s mission of sparking curiosity and learning through play!

What You’ll Do:
- Develop and execute dynamic strategies to grow TCMU’s brand and increase museum visitation.
- Manage TCMU’s digital presence across social media, email, and web platforms, ensuring every touchpoint sparks connection and curiosity.
- Lead creative storytelling through press releases, marketing campaigns, and collateral that celebrate TCMU’s impact.
- Collaborate with external vendors, media outlets, and partners to ensure seamless delivery of all marketing efforts.
- Analyze marketing performance and audience trends, adjusting strategies to stay ahead of the game.

What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or related field required.
- 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, and digital/print media.
- Proven leadership in managing teams and cross-departmental projects.
- Expertise in digital advertising platforms, email marketing tools, and design software (WordPress, Google Ads, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

Spartanburg Associate
Part–time, Non-Exempt
Spartanburg Museum location
Must have flexible schedule
$12-15/hr
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Spartanburg Associate to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.
Major Responsibilities
- Liase among guest, internal leadership, community partners, education leaders, and stakeholders to maximize museum attendance and create innovative and inviting experience for all visitors.
- Coordinate, champion and execute in museum/outreach programs, appropriate for audience of children ages 6 and under
- Oversee daily admissions/ticketing, store and in house membership purchases
Predominant Tasks
- Liaise with Greenville team to oversee Spartanburg daily operations at admissions, working with PO systems, selling retail, managing visitors, answering phones and on-site inquiries.
- Act as a museum ambassador, providing guests with assistance, resolving, escalating, and/or reporting major issues to TCMU leadership.
- Identify volunteer/intern needs.
- Ensure TCMU policies and procedures are in place and followed.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years experience in educational programming, with an emphasis in Early Childhood education (preferred)
- Customer service or related field experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Flexible Schedule, including evening and weekend hours
Experience
- Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children and the general public.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications
- Basic math
- Ability to master proprietary software managing various TCMU systems.
Personal Attributes
- Team player, high energy and ethics, able to flourish in fast paced environment with confidence.
- Ability to multi-task, think critically, and drive process and operational improvements.
- Great interpersonal skills dealing with internal teams, children, families, community members.

The TCMU Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and retain committed interns who bring a variety of knowledge, life experiences, and skills to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in order to better meet the needs of the visitors TCMU serves. Internship opportunities exist throughout the organization, from exhibit maintenance to event planning to host a wide variety of individuals.
