Birthday Party Host
Part-time, Non-Exempt
Greenville Museum location
Flexible schedule, predominantly weekend availability
$10/hr
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Birthday Party Host to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.
Major Responsibilities
- Create an inviting, festive environment for the birthday party children and family
- Oversee and manage completion of safe, fun and thorough birthday parties, resulting in a successfully delivered birthday party product
- Facilitate and/or lead desired activities for all birthday party guests
- Clean party rooms after use and communicate inventory needs to Birthday Party Coordinator
Predominant Tasks

Major Responsibilities
- Build, lead, and supervise birthday party events at Greenville location
- Liase among guests, internal leadership, and stakeholders to increase birthday party bookings, improve birthday party program offering, and provide excellent experience for all participants
- Collaborate with TCMU-Spartanburg staff to align and implement cohesive birthday party events across both museum locations
- Conserve organizational resources and manage ordering of supplies in a timely manner in tandem with Event Specialist
- Interface with Marketing Manager to provide information for timely marketing and sales strategies
- Support visitor experience and customer service seasonally and/or as needed.
- Oversee earned revenue of $120K+
- Meet budgetary goals for personnel, expenses and inventory up to $48K
Predominant Tasks
- Supervise, train, and schedule hourly party hosts
- Oversee birthday party program procedures and implement efficient processes, including preparation, ordering of catering, add-on activities, set up, and tear down of party rooms
- Strategize and create innovative solutions to improve birthday party offering, including add-ons, or other enhancements and implement in coordination with Event Specialist
- Communicate with birthday party constituents to confirm all party details, ensuring excellent customer service
- Interface with Guest Services Manager, Admissions Staff, Exhibits and Facilities Staff to confirm day-of party check-in procedures and physical resources needed
- Act as a museum ambassador, providing guests with assistance, resolving, escalating, and/or reporting major issues with or through appropriate TCMU leadership; act as escalation point for birthday party staff regarding birthday party issues
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience

- Strong organizational acumen
- Able to work 25-28 hours per week within a 9am-5pm workday. Must be able to work Saturday and Sunday from 9am-5pm.
Experience

- 1-3 years’ experience in children’s/family programming, event planning, or related field

Experienced position, 3-5 years in a customer service field with supervisory experience
$37,000-42,000
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Front of House Specialist to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.
Major Responsibilities
- Manage day- to day front of house operations to ensure an excellent museum experience and act as Manager on Duty.
- Supervise onsite staff that interface with the visitor.
- Identify and address problems and opportunities affecting the museum experience. Work as a critical member of guest services team to position new opportunities to senior leadership for consideration.
- Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary customer service and cross-functional team facilitation to wow TCMU visitors.
Predominant Tasks
- Lead team members by exemplifying TCMU’s core values, encouraging them to own and improve the museum experience, while holding them accountable to standards of service.
- Oversee POS systems, store, membership, ticket sales, daily revenues, and cash deposits.
- Act as an escalation point for customer needs, complaints, praise, safety incidents, or personnel issues.
- Observe museum operations included admissions, retail, programming, exhibitions, facilities, and events regularly to ensure excellent guest experience and make immediate adjustments as needed.
- Contributes to strategic decisions affecting museum operations within the areas of staffing, materials, content, guest flow, and sales.
- Maintains understanding and working knowledge or TCMU’s point of sale systems and guest services procedures and supports implementation of new or altered processes affecting the museum experience.
- Assists with pulling and updating TCMU visitor data for the organization.
Qualifications
- Able to work a Sunday-Thursday schedule.
- Some evening work required.
- Adapt at problem solving and versed in emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, caregivers, children, and the general public.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Experience

The TCMU Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and retain committed interns who bring a variety of knowledge, life experiences, and skills to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in order to better meet the needs of the visitors TCMU serves. Internship opportunities exist throughout the organization, from exhibit maintenance to event planning to host a wide variety of individuals.

Outreach Associate
Part-time: typically 10 or less hours per week; primarily scheduled on weekends, with some weekday evenings
Greenville Museum location with ability to travel throughout Upstate
Entry level position
The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is looking for a team player to fill the role of Outreach Associate. The Outreach Associate represents TCMU at TCMU On the Go and Outreach events throughout the Upstate community. TCMU is one of the nation’s largest children’s museums and serves 250,000+ visitors per year through hands-on exhibits and interactive programming.
The Outreach Associate should have a friendly demeaner, with some customer service experience. They will frequently be dealing with the public and interacting with both children and adults. The ideal candidate will be a team player with high energy. Job assignments will be primarily offsite at outreach events. Reliable transportation to and from events will be necessary.
Job Responsibilities:
- Handle outreach programs tasks and serve as support to the Programs team
- Work actively at Outreach events to facilitate curriculum and create an engaging experience
- Assist with other TCMU programming as needed, and maintain inventory log
- Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary customer service and cross-functional team facilitation to meet/exceed expectations of TCMU visitors – at both locations and in the community
Predominant Tasks:
- Assist with any prep needed to facilitate outreach offerings
- Act as ambassador for the museum while at programs, providing guests with required assistance and escalating concerns to manage customer expectations
- Assist museum staff with all other needs of the programming department such as planning, prep and facilitation as required
Ideal Experience & Skill Set:
- Entry level position open to all skill levels
- Customer service experience and/or experience working with children helpful
- Strong organization skills and well versed in technology
- Able to problem solve
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Schedule Availability:
- Able to work a flexible schedule
