Programs & Community Engagement Associate

Programs & Community Engagement Associate  
Parttime, Non-Exempt 
Greenville Museum location 
Flexible Schedule, including evening and weekend hours  
$12-13/hr 

 

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Programs & Community Engagement Associate to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community. 

 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Organize, prepare, and facilitate Public Programming while providing a high quality, engaging experience for our visitors.    
  • Provide support to the Programs Department by planning, preparing, and facilitating supplemental programs for fundraisers, field trips, camps, and other special events as needed.   
  • Lead visitors through educational activities at Outreach events and provide them with general TCMU information.  
  • Create curriculum and supplementary materials for Outreach events and work actively to facilitate an engaging experience for the Upstate community.   
  • Assist with other TCMU programming as needed, and maintain inventory log    
  • Deliver collaborative and innovative solutions that result in extraordinary customer service and cross-functional team facilitation to meet/exceed expectations of TCMU visitors – at both locations    

 

Predominant Tasks 

  • Assist with any prep needed to facilitate outreach offerings.   
  • Prepare and store necessary materials needed to facilitate programs offerings.    
  • Act as ambassador for the museum while at programs, providing guests with required assistance and escalating concerns to manage customer expectations    
  • Assist museum staff with all other needs of the programming department such as planning, prep and facilitation as required  
  • Facilitate public programs during typical business hours in addition to special events.  

 

Qualifications 

  • One year minimum experience in customer service or related field involving such interactions  
  • Educational programming experience preferred  
  • Flexible Schedule, including evening and weekend hours   
  • Strong organization and technology skills  
  • Must work at Least 1 Shift Per Quarter, Up to 20 hours 

 

Experience 

  • Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children and the general public   

 

Technical Skills 

  • Project Management, Office 365 applications, basic math  

 

Personal Attributes 

  • Ability to multi-task, think critically, and drive process and operational improvements.   
  • Great interpersonal skills dealing with internal teams, children, families, community members.

Exhibits Associate (PT)

Exhibits Associate

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Exhibits Associate to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Routinely round the museum floor, being perceptive of all surroundings affecting safe, fully functional exhibits
  • Attend to daily requirements identified to keep exhibits in good operating condition
  • Proactively support special events, facility needs, and other needs of the Facilities and Exhibits department as assigned

 

Predominant Tasks

  • Reset exhibit props to ensure exhibits are able to function as intended for the visitors
  • Identify potential safety concerns or issues requiring further maintenance and escalate to appropriate parties
  • Proactively communicate exhibit updates, failures, or repairs affecting the visitor experience to the appropriate departments such as Guest Services, Programming, and Volunteers
  • Assist in exhibit repair
  • Document problems or opportunities within exhibit spaces

 

Qualifications

  • Self-motivated, able to take instruction and complete tasks independently
  • Have a good attitude and greet guests enthusiastically
  • Able to multi-task and respond to concerns or new issues quickly
  • Must have weekend availability

 

Experience

  • 0-1 year experience in a facilities, exhibits, or hospitality field helpful, but not required

 

Technical Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate needs and requests of management
  • Administratively organized and able to keep up with tasks lists and requirements
  • Critical thinker, able to resolve issues
  • Basic computer and tech skills – able to document, take photos, email, etc.

  • Oversee and manage completion of safe, fun and thorough birthday parties, resulting in a successfully delivered birthday party product
  • Facilitate and/or lead desired activities for all birthday party guests
  • Clean party rooms after use and communicate inventory needs to Birthday Party Coordinator

Major Responsibilities

·       Handle daily admissions, ticketing and in-house membership purchases

·       Provide inviting, upbeat welcome and experience to incoming guests and groups

·       Cover retail store register and accurate, well-completed sales

·       Support Guest Services team with inventory upkeep and physical organizational layout

Predominant Tasks

·   Work daily Admissions operations and retail store using various computer systems, answering phones and inquires while creating a positive, memorable experience for guests

·   Act as ambassadors for the museum, providing guests with required assistance and escalating concerns to manage customer expectations

·   Assist museum staff with retail store: 1. Sales 2. Inventory put away 3. Accurate inventory counts, upkeep, and placement 4. Sales reporting to provide analytics, increase sales, and support the visitor experience

·   Assist the Guest Services and Marketing teams as needed

Qualifications

Intern

The TCMU Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and retain committed interns who bring a variety of knowledge, life experiences, and skills to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in order to better meet the needs of the visitors TCMU serves. Internship opportunities exist throughout the organization, from exhibit maintenance to event planning to host a wide variety of individuals.
