Marketing Coordinator

Marketing Coordinator 
Location: Greenville, SC 

Full Time: Tues- Saturday

(some travel to Spartanburg required)

Salary Range: $36,000-41,000

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate (TCMU) is on the lookout for a dynamic Marketing Coordinator to help amplify our mission of sparking a lifelong passion for curiosity and learning through play.

As the Marketing Coordinator, you’ll bring TCMU’s programs, events, and playful spirit to life across social media, email, and beyond. This role is perfect for someone who can switch from crafting social media content to writing compelling emails—all while collaborating with a team that believes in the power of childhood wonder.

What You’ll Do: 

🌟 Managing and growing TCMU’s social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and more!)
📬 Creating and sending engaging email and SMS campaigns
🎨 Designing fun and informative content (think: Canva, videos, graphics)
🤝 Collaborating with museum teams to gather stories and promote happenings

What We’re Looking For:

Spartanburg Associate

Spartanburg Associate
Part-time, Non-Exempt
Spartanburg Museum location
Must have flexible schedule, including weekends
$12-14/hr

The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is seeking a Spartanburg Associate to assist in supporting the mission to ignite a community of compassionate problem solvers through intentional and inclusive play. Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.

 

Major Responsibilities

  • Liase among guest, internal leadership, community partners, education leaders, and stakeholders to maximize museum attendance and create innovative and inviting experience for all visitors.
  • Coordinate, champion and execute in museum/outreach programs, appropriate for audience of children ages 6 and under
  • Oversee daily admissions/ticketing, store and in house membership purchases

 

Predominant Tasks

  • Liaise with Greenville team to oversee Spartanburg daily operations at admissions, working with PO systems, selling retail, managing visitors, answering phones and on-site inquiries.
  • Act as a museum ambassador, providing guests with assistance, resolving, escalating, and/or reporting major issues to TCMU leadership.
  • Identify volunteer/intern needs.
  • Ensure TCMU policies and procedures are in place and followed.

 

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years experience in customer service or educational programming
  • Customer service or related field experience
  • Flexible Schedule, including week day and weekend hours

 

Experience

  • Adept at problem solving and versed in using emotional intelligence interacting with colleagues, children and the general public.

 

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Basic math
  • Ability to master proprietary software managing various TCMU systems.

Community Engagement Assistant

Serving over 250,000 visitors a year, TCMU has locations in Greenville and Spartanburg, houses hands-on exhibits supporting learning through play, and provides robust programming and outreach opportunities to the Upstate SC community.

Major Responsibilities

  • Facilitates engaging enrichment activities for visiting field trip groups on an as-needed basis, ensuring a positive and educational experience.
  • Serves as the primary, day-of, point of contact for field trips and volunteer groups, providing a warm welcome and orientation upon arrival.
  • Assists in reviewing and refining field trip and group volunteer procedures to improve efficiency, safety, and overall program quality.
  • Supports the coordination of group volunteer activities and helps manage the distribution of philanthropic materials.

 

Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of experience in customer service or education related field

Major Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, preparation and facilitation of engaging outreach programs at schools, libraries, and community events that reflect the museum’s educational focus.
  • Represent the museum at community events by fostering partnerships, promoting events/programs and other general museum information.
  • Work collaboratively with museum staff to deliver innovative solutions that result in extraordinary cross-functional team facilitation.
  • Provide excellent customer service while interacting with students, educators, caregivers, and community partners and ensure that concerns are addressed or escalated to management
  • Assist with other TCMU supplemental programs as assigned by leadership.

 

Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Flexible Schedule, including evening and weekend hours

 

Experience

  • Facilitate and/or lead desired activities for all birthday party guests
  • Clean party rooms after use and communicate inventory needs to Birthday Party Coordinator

Intern

The TCMU Internship Program seeks to recruit, train, and retain committed interns who bring a variety of knowledge, life experiences, and skills to The Children’s Museum of the Upstate in order to better meet the needs of the visitors TCMU serves. Internship opportunities exist throughout the organization, from exhibit maintenance to event planning to host a wide variety of individuals.
