Countdown to Kindergarten returns on Friday\, August 1st at TCMU-Spartanburg. \nThis FREE community event will provide families with rising 3K\, 4K and Kindergarteners with the opportunity to connect with community partners focused on student success and childhood development. While the event is free\, we do ask you to please RSVP so we can plan accordingly. \nPlus\, TCMU-Spartanburg will host a variety of activities–from learning how to use a lunch tray to mock classrooms–geared at preparing young learners for their first school experience!    \nThis event will take place on Magnolia Street in front of the museum. All event vendors will be a part of the Upstate community and have a primary focus on student success\, childhood development\, and school readiness.  \nOur Community Partner\, South Carolina Autism Society\, will be providing a free “chill out zone” for kids with sensory needs who need a break during the event.

Through guided play\, interactive storytelling\, art\, movement\, and hands-on exploration\, children will engage in joyful learning led by caring early childhood educators.\nK-Ready aligns with the five core components of the “Ready Kindergartener” as identified by SC First Steps:\n\n\nApproaches to Learning & Inquiry\nChildren will explore the world with curiosity and confidence\, building persistence\, creativity\, and a love for learning through daily opportunities for play\, discovery\, and questioning.\n\n\nEmotional & Social Development\nThrough group activities\, routines\, and imaginative play\, children will practice following directions\, sharing and taking turns\, regulating emotions\, building friendships\, and showing empathy for others.\n\n\nPhysical Development\, Self-Help & Motor Skills\nActivities will support gross and fine motor skills\, encourage independence with self-help tasks\, and promote healthy physical movement in a fun\, child-friendly setting.\n\n\nMathematical Thinking\nChildren will practice early math skills such as counting\, comparing\, identifying shapes\, sorting\, and understanding patterns—all integrated into engaging games and hands-on materials.\n\n\nLanguage & Literacy Development\nDaily read-alouds and disscussions will support children in listening\, speaking clearly\, asking questions\, following multi-step directions\, recognizing letters and sounds\, and expressing themselves through drawing and early writing.\n\n\nK-Ready is a free\, inclusive program offered as part of your admission to the museum.
